OAT announced the release of TAO Community Edition (TAO CE), the world’s leading open-source digital assessment platform. Available for free global download on January 5, 2026, this release advances open and community-driven innovation in digital assessment.
TAO CE provides a modular, integrated stack—TAO Advance, TAO Grader, TAO Insights, and TAO Portal—allowing institutions and developers to own, customize, and manage their assessment infrastructure without vendor lock-in or per-user licensing.
Launched with the TAO Community Forum, TAO CE brings together developers, assessment experts, and institutions to collaborate on features and roadmap direction. Built on open standards such as QTI®, LTI®, and WCAG, TAO ensures interoperability and accessibility.
Supporting over 18 interface languages and flexible deployment to meet data sovereignty needs, TAO CE promotes equity and inclusion worldwide. TAO Community Edition is released under the AGPLv3 license.
