
To support school leaders, the Center for Public Education (CPE) of the NSBA compiled this report to advocate for strengthening career and technical education (CTE) by preparing students with durable skills for an AI driven economy. In the report, we begin with an overview of how AI is rapidly transforming the job market. Then, we examine the current state of CTE in K-12 education and explore how programs should adapt to meet workforce demands in an AI-driven economy. Finally, we point out a critical gapβthe lack of data and evidence on durable skills. School leaders and educators, need a reliable tool to assess studentsβ durable skills for curriculum development and improvement. To address this need, NSBA is partnering with ProjectSetβan online platform that helps learners develop and showcase durable skills through virtual work-based learning programsβto pilot a digital tool called the Tracker.
